Patriotic Drawstring Bag

I’m pretty excited when it’s getting close to 4th of July! That means BBQ’s, sunshine and a whole lotta red, white & blue! Today I have a cute patriotic drawstring bag to show off! I got to use some of my older stashed away fabrics and found a cute USA template to print out, so I’ll share that link with you as well! Let’s take a look!

Patriotic Drawstring Bag

Here is the thing, you can never have enough bags or red, white & blue things. #AMIRIGHT? This project has both! I combined an older Moda print with big red and off-white stripes and some fun Michael Miller dots in dark navy/white. I actually wanted to use a star print but I only had dots for this time 😉

Let’s make this cute patriotic drawstring bag together, shall we?

Materials & supplies needed:

2 coordinating fabric pieces
drawstring bag tutorial (I loved this free drawstring bag tutorial)
USA template (I used this one which can be saved as an image and printed out to about 9×7″)
sewing machine
cutting board
rotary cutter
scissors
ruler
safety pin
straight pins
iron on adhesive
iron

First you want to determine how big you want your drawstring bag to be if you want it in a different size. The free tutorial (link mentioned above) as info on that. Then once you have downloaded the USA template you want to make the applique’. See my tutorial on how to make an iron on. Once you have applied the iron on it’s time to hand stitch around the perimeter with the embroidery floss. Simply stitch in and out in a weaving fashion. Double knot the ends on the inside when you are done.
